A grey-pink grape that makes a white wine, Moschofilero is the aromatic star of Mantinia, a cool, high plateau in the central Peloponnese. Late- ripening and lifted by altitude, it gives a pale, fragrant, high-acid white perfumed with rose petal and Muscat spice — Greece's answer to a dry, floral aromatic white.
Its pink skins can tint the wine faintly copper if pressed with care, and the grape also makes delicate rosé and traditional-method sparkling. Bright, low in alcohol and unmistakably scented, it is one of the most distinctive whites of the Greek revival.
